wir und jetzt

Vieles auf diesem Planeten ist im Umbruch und unterliegt einer scheinbar unabdingbaren Veränderung. Nichts von Allem was uns beschäftigt kommt auch nur annähernd der Herausforderung der globalen Erwärmung gleich. 

In meinem "ersten Leben" ging ich meiner Passion des Bergsteigens nach. Im Alter von 19 kletterte ich die Nordostwand des Pizzo Badile, in den Jahren darauf folgten viele Begehungen in den Nordwänden der Alpen und Expeditionen im Himalaya, Alaska, Südamerika und der Arktis. Wenn ich mir die Bilder der Berge von damals ansehe, scheinen da eher ein paar Jahrhunderte als Jahrzehnte dazwischen zu liegen.

Immer wieder biete ich meine photographische Arbeit Orgnisationen und politischen Intiativen kostenlos an. So auch Basel2030. Ich erachte dies als meinen persönlichen Beitrag für eine Sache, die nicht nur wichtig sondern nach meinem Dafürhalten unabdingbar ist. Seit über 40 Jahren ist das Problem bekannt. So lange wird schon verdrängt, abgewartet, taktiert und politisiert. Nicht erstaunlich also, wenn es mittlerweile höchste Zeit ist zu handeln.

Much of this planet is in upheaval and undergoing seemingly inevitable change. None of what occupies us even comes close to meeting the challenge of global warming.

In my "first life" I pursued my passion of mountaineering. At the age of 19 I climbed the Northeast face of Pizzo Badile, in the years that followed many ascents on the north faces of the Alps and expeditions in the Himalayas, Alaska, South America and the Arctic. When I look at the pictures of the mountains of that time, there seem to be a few centuries rather than decades in between.

At times I offer my photographic work free of charge to organizations and political initiatives. Basel2030 is no exception. I consider this my personal contribution to a cause that is not only important but in my opinion indispensable. The problem has been known for over 40 years. That's how long people have been suppressing, waiting, tacting and politicking. It is therefore not surprising that it is now high time to act.
